Moscow Police rule out U of I history department chair
MOSCOW — The Moscow Police Department updated the public Tuesday, Dec. 27 on the investigation into the murders of University of Idaho students Ethan Chapin, 20, Madison Mogen, 21, Idaho; Xana Kernodle, 20, and Kaylee GonCalves, 21 that occurred Nov. 13.
Detectives do not believe professor and chairperson of the University of Idaho History department, Rebecca Scofield is involved in this crime, reports state.
Scofield is currently suing a TikTok user for defamation in regards to the crime.
Moscow PD states that there have been numerous inquiries from members of the public, and the media about verifying digital media being published online. Reports state that any picture or video provided through the official public records request process is authentic. Any record released can no longer be verified by investigators as authentic, due to not being able to show alteration to the media. According to reports detectives have been made aware of videos distributed by local businesses.
Investigators are continuing to request additional pictures, videos, and social media content. Detectives believe that someone might have information that adds context to what occurred the night of Nov. 13, and ask anyone who has information whether believed to be significant or not to share anything. Reports state that these digital submissions will not be disclosed to the public in an attempt to keep information and details private in the ongoing investigation.
Investigators are still in the process of locating the white 2011-2013 Hyundai Elantra, which was believed to be in the area of King Road residence during the early morning hours of Nov. 13. Reports state that occupants may have critical information pertinent to the case. There have been over 22,000 vehicles identified, according to reports.
Detectives are asking anyone who knows of a vehicle matching the description, or knows anyone who may have been driving this vehicle to forward this information to the tip line.
Reports state that no suspects have been identified, and only information that will not hinder the investigation will be released to the public.
