New business opens in Rosalia

Pine Creek Provisions hopes to offer big-city experience in small community

ROSALIA – Pine Creek Provisions opened its doors on Nov. 23 of this year, initially offering animal feed to the people of Rosalia.

A month later, the owners – married couple Jessica and David Clark and Jessica’s mother Jennifer Engle – opted to expand its products to include baked goods as well as health and welfare products.

“We’ve seen lots of places open up and not make it in town,” Jessica said. “So we did as much as we could to diversify what we sold, that way the better we would be.”

One of such places was Red Brick Cafe, which closed its doors on Sept. 30.

In the place of the cafe, Pine Creek Provisions added pastries, food and provisions to its available products after coming across a building with a commercial kitchen in it, a building the business currently operates out of.

The addition of food to the business has brought in customers that weren’t coming in before, and is mostly done by the lone employee of the business – Rachel Schad, according to Jessica.

“A building that came up had a commercial kitchen in it, and we decided to take a chance on it,” Jessica said. “We decided to sell food, drawing people in that weren’t customers before.”

Jessica went on to talk about the community support of the business.

“(The support is) so nice,” Jessica said. “Obviously we’re not gonna have a business if we don’t have a community supporting us. But everyone has been so nice and so supportive. People have been liking and sharing our posts on social media, and seeing the positive feedback has been so helpful.”

Jessica went on to describe the experience she hopes customers have when they shop from her business.

“It’s a small town,” Jessica said. “There’s different reasons for people having to drive to Moscow, Pullman and Spokane – now they can stay in their community and shop locally. Obviously, we’re not big without people’s business and everyone has been so helpful.

I just hope people felt welcome and felt that they got an experience that usually you’d have to drive for to get: getting a Spokane or Seattle experience in their hometown and just feel like family. We’re always so excited to see everybody when they come through the door.”
