Bulldogs beat Riverside and Cheney in East Holiday Classic
SPOKANE VALLEY — Colfax boys basketball headed to West Valley High School in Spokane Valley on Dec. 28 and 29 to take on the Riverside Rams of Chattaroy, Wash. And the Cheney Blackhawks in the East Holiday Classic.
The Bulldogs returned home to Colfax with wins over both opponents – beating the Rams 63-52 on Dec. 28 and the Blackhawks 62-49 on Dec. 29 to improve to 8-1 on the season.
Colfax and Riverside were neck-and-neck in the opening quarter, and the Bulldogs went into the final eight minutes of the first half up 11-10.
Riverside wasn’t able to continue to keep pace with Colfax and the Bulldogs outscored the Rams 16-7 in the second quarter, holding a 27-17 lead at halftime.
Riverside responded in the third quarter with a 21-16 scoring advantage to cut the Colfax lead to 43-38 going into the final quarter.
Colfax put the game away in the fourth – outscoring Riverside 20-14 for the 11-point win.
Three Bulldogs scored double-digits in the win against Riverside – Seth Lustig had 18 points, six of them coming off 3-pointers, in addition to five assists and two rebounds, Adrik Jenkin had a steal to add on to his 10 points, six of them coming from beyond the arc and Carson Gray scored nine of his 14 points off 3-pointers, in addition to crashing the glass for four rebounds and dishing out two assists.
In the Dec. 29 game against Cheney, it began much like the game against Riverside, with Colfax holding a 10-8 lead after the first quarter before outscoring the Blackhawks 18-10 in the second frame to go into halftime with a 28-18 lead.
Also similar to the game against the Rams, the Blackhawks outscored the Bulldogs in the third quarter 16-13 to cut the Colfax lead to 41-34 heading into the final eight minutes of regulation.
Reece Jenkin’s Bulldogs outscored Cheney 21-15 in the final quarter for the 13-point win.
Adrik Jenkin led the Bulldogs with 20 total points, 18 of them coming from six made 3-pointers, and brought in three rebounds. Lustig added 15 points, six assists, two rebounds and a steal and Bradyn Heilsberg added 11 points, two assists and two steals.
