Colfax girls go 2-0 in Eagle Holiday Classic

Lady Bulldogs improve to 10-0 at West Valley High School

SPOKANE VALLEY — Colfax came into the Eagle Holiday Classic at West Valley High School on Dec. 28 with an 8-0 record and was ranked first amongst Washington 2B girls basketball teams in many state polls.

The Lady Bulldogs continued to show why they’re one of the better teams in the state, beating Ephrata High School on Dec. 28 by a score of 55-23 and Bonners Ferry on Dec. 29 by a score of 59-35.

Colfax’s defense was on display in the opening half against Ephrata, with the Bulldogs putting up 16 points in the first quarter compared to the Tigers’ five.

Head coach Jordan Holmes and her Lady Bulldogs continued to hold Ephrata to single digits for the rest of the first half – going into halftime with a 30-9 lead.

Defense was again showcased by Colfax in the third quarter, holding the Tigers to two points in the frame and heading into the final eight minutes of regulation up 47-11.

Ephrata more than doubled its point total in the final quarter – but the lead was insurmountable and Colfax took its first win of the West Valley-hosted event.

Brynn McGaughy led the Lady Bulldogs against Ephrata with 23 points, four rebounds, four blocks and a steal. Hailey Demler also contributed double-digit points, putting up 12 to go with seven rebounds, three steals and three assists. Jaisha Gibb also added seven rebounds, six steals and an assist to go with her two points in the win.

Bonners Ferry was the next opponent for the Lady Bulldogs, and although the Badgers were able to put more points on the scoreboard than their Ephrata peers, they still weren’t able to unseat the Bulldogs.

Colfax went into halftime up 34-22 against Bonners Ferry, still far from out of reach for the Badgers.

Then, the trademark defense of the Bulldogs again put on a display in the third quarter, holding Bonners Ferry to four total points while putting up 14.

The final quarter saw a similar performance – Colfax outscored Bonners Ferry 11-9 – and the Bulldogs returned home from Spokane Valley with a 10-0 record on the season.

McGaughy again led Colfax in scoring, putting up 22 points to go with nine rebounds, five blocks and a steal. Demler contributed 13 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists and Gibb added six points, four steals, three assists and two rebounds.
