Hole causes Almota Docks bridge delays

Bridge restricted to one-lane traffic due to hole

COLFAX— A press release from Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) states that those who plan to travel on the Almota Docks bridge on SR 194 at milepost 0.1, south of Colfax, will have possible delays due to the bridge being restricted down to one lane as of Monday, Jan.. 9.

Reports state that a hole spanning through the bridge deck has formed between the two lanes. “The bridge is structurally sound, so there are no safety concerns,” said WSDOT Communications Manager, Ryan Overton, adding that the bridge has very low traffic and cars will straddle over the top of it to avoid the hole.

Overton explained that truck tires running over the top of the hole made it crack a little further back each time, “We’ve taken half of one lane and half of the other, so now you’re driving over the center,” he said, adding that drivers then avoid the problem area.

When the weather gets better, Overton said that WSDOT will be working with their bridge crew to get it fixed.

“It’s not a very heavily traveled road as it is,” Overton said, adding that it’s not a huge pressing issue, but they intend to take care of it.
