Serving Whitman County since 1877

Colfax Rotary Club

Series: Letters to the Editor | Story 23

The Colfax Rotary Club is a service organization serving the Colfax community. Our club was established in 1950. Colfax Rotary has owned and maintained the Daniel W. Henry Little League Field since the early 1950’s. As a kid I remember playing on that field in the early 1960’s and attending their annual Little League Breakfast, which continues still today. There is also a

soccer field and a few years ago, a softball field was added. The Rotary club took tickets at the Palouse Empire Fair for many years. The club sells fireworks each Fourth of July, splitting the proceeds with the Colfax High School softball/baseball teams. Members have helped to stage parades for the Chamber of Commerce and just completed six weeks of delivering Meals on Wheels.

The Rotary Club provides three $1000 scholarships annually to graduating high school seniors. The first week of December, the club raised $4400 at their annual Christmas Auction with the proceeds going to the Fireman’s Toybox and the Lutheran Child, Youth and Family Fund.

Colfax previously had a Kiwanis Club and a Jaycees Club. These two clubs faded because of lagging membership and aging membership. Rotary in Colfax has a rich history, and we would like to preserve that history by inviting new members to join. As a Rotary member you would help better our community through our outreach events. The Colfax Rotary Club would ask anyone interested in joining to contact our president, Kay Riebold, at bkriebold@gmail.com or come to a meeting.

Allen Kirkpatrick,

Colfax
