Leslie Wayne Maley

Leslie Wayne Maley was born Sept. 23, 1937. He passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 13, 2023, at Palouse Country Assisted Living in Fairfield, Washington, after a nine month battle with brain cancer secondary to malignant melanoma.

Wayne was born to Margaret Olive Edden from Missoula, Montana, and Lester Maley of Thornton, Washington. In the same Thornton house, he was born, raised, and lived his whole life. Throughout his time he was a wheat and cattle rancher.

Wayne graduated from Rosalia High School, part of the class of 1956. During the period after high school, Leslie spent time enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves during the 1950's. In October of 1956, he married Marilyn Dollarhide from St. John, Washington. Together they had seven children, but they later divorced in 1985.

Wayne is survived by the mother of his children, Marilyn; and his seven children, Becky Clark (Bruce) of Bayview, Idaho, Betty Lou Maley of Pullman, Washington, Beth Maley of Portland, Oregon, Brenda Anderson (Garry) of Spokane, Washington, Joe Maley of Thornton, Washington, Patrick Maley (Debbie) of Spokane, Jeff Maley (Stacie) of Richland, Washington; one brother, Dan Shipley of Elma, Wash .; nephews, Bill and David Maley; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

People often said that Wayne was a man who made a friend wherever he went, and will surely be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Les Maley; stepmothers, Jennie Maley and Olga Maley; brothers, Bill Maley, and Walter and Donny Nyberg; and granddaughter Marilyn Maley.

A memorial service is planned for April, at the Rosalia Methodist Church, time to be determined.
