Tyrone R.E. Unger

Tyrone R.E. Unger, Colfax resident, passed away Monday, January 16, 2023 at the Avalon Care Center in Pullman after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 58. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held in the Spring once it warms up.

Tyrone was born April 8, 1964 in York, Pennsylvania, to Levellen and Bonnie Stambaugh Unger. He grew up in Pennsylvania with his four siblings and graduated from high school there.

Following high school, Tyrone enlisted in the United States Navy and would serve his country for over twenty two years from 1984 – 2006. He specialized in electronics maintenance and worked on all types of radar systems, air traffic control systems and other types of communications equipment. He served on Whidbey Island and in Everett, Washington for several years and also returned to Pennsylvania for a tour of duty there.

He married Christa Marie Carmody in Everett on December 24, 1987. They raised two daughters. Tyrone and his family moved to Colfax, Washington 17 years ago to be closer to family.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years Christa; their daughters, Lori Unger and Amanda Unger both of Colfax; by his siblings Ronnie, Barbara, Brian and Connie; and by two grandchildren, Dalton and Paisleigh; he is also survived by a “brother from a different mother” and best friend Jeff Kehr, as well as many nieces and nephews.
