Colton loses quarterfinal game

SPOKANE -Colton had no answer for Zalissa Finley, who was an absolute beast for Inchelium in the 1B Girls State basketball Tournament at the Arena Thursday, March 2. She scored 26 points to lead her team to a 66-52 win over the Wildcats.

With the loss, Colton plays in a loser out game against Waterville-Mansfield at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 3.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair and was tied at 26 apiece, with two minutes remaining. Kyndra Stout led the Wildcats with 11 first half points.

The second half belonged to the 6'1'' Finley, who did it all for the Hornets by blocking shots, rebounding and scoring easy putbacks from under the hoop. The Hornets' full court pressure led to Colton turnovers and more easy baskets en route to their 66-52 win.

Stout scored a team high 16 points for Colton. Grace Kuhle scored 11 points and Ella Follmer and Claire Moehele each scored eight points.

"We didn't execute the way we hoped to tonight," Colton head coach Clark Vining said. "They took advantage of our mistakes and in the end we didn't get enough stops to come out on top."
