Three teams leave for state tournament in Spokane
SPOKANE – After all three teams completed their first-round state tournament games on Feb. 25, the Oakesdale Nighthawks, Colton Wildcats and Colfax girls basketball teams all will advance to the Spokane Arena in Spokane to continue their efforts at a state championship.
Colton and Oakesdale will compete in the 1B tournament while Colfax will compete in the 2B tournament.
Colfax and Colton will be playing in the quarterfinal round today (March 2) after winning their opening-round games on Feb. 25 . Oakesdale faced Wellpinit in the Round of 12 on March 1 after losing its opening-round game in Chehalis on Feb. 25. Results were unavailable at press time.
Colfax will face either Upper Columbia Academy or Rainer at 5:30 today and Colton will face either Willapa Valley or Inchelium at 12:15 p.m. today.
Oakesdale left for Spokane on Tuesday evening for Spokane to prepare for Wellpinit on Wednesday.
Colfax will leave during the afternoon today, but had their formal send off at 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday due to there being no school on Thursday.
Colton left Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. for their noon game on Thursday in Spokane, with the school and town sending their Wildcats off with a formal send-off.
The 1B and 2B state tournaments both take place in the Spokane Arena from March 2-March 4.
For the 1B girls teams, the championship game will take place at 3 p.m. March 4, the third/fifth-place game will take place at 11:15 a.m. and the fourth/sixth-place game will take place at 8 a.m., both on March 4.
For the 2B girls tournament, the championship game will take place at 7 p.m., the third/fifth-place game will happen at 1 p.m. and the fourth/sixth-place game will happen at 9:30 a.m.
All those 2B games will also happen March 4.
