BACK FROM COLLEGE

Two Young Men Making Doctors of Themselves

Will Brand and Ed. Maquire returned to Colfax from St. Joseph, Mo., Sunday. They have been attending the Ensworth Medical college at that city and are in a fair wayto become learned physicians. Mr. Brand is a member of the senior class and Mr. Maguire of the junior. They have been absent since September last and will again return to their studies next September. The boys were members of the college football team and made records of which the Palouse country can be proud.

They say everybody in Missouri have heard of the fair fame of the great Palouse and many are anxious to visit it. While the young men acknowledge to be a great state, they say it cannot compare in opportunities or pleasantness as a home with the Palouse country.

Mr. Brand informs THE Gazette that he met a St. Joe Mr. Devereaux, who was a former road master on the O. R. & N. here, but who is now acting in the same capacity on the St. Joe & Grand Island railroad. Mr. Devereaux says he will return to this country soon.

County hikes airport leases

Whitman County's lease rates at the Colfax Airport were cleared for takeoff Monday by commissioners.

Anticipated increases will raise annual rents at the county building sites from $300 to $3,000 annd hangers from $300 to $480.

Chairman Hollis Jamison, who spear-headed negotiations between the county and its airport lessees, called the changes 'fair and equitable."

The county currently leases five hangars and two building sites at the airport, meaning that annual rental profits will increase to $8,400 annually once the boost is implemented. Under the current rate the county collected around $2,100.

"It looks excellent," said Commissioner Nora Mae Keifer, reviewing the agreement. Keifer suggested the board have the county chief prosecutor examine the plan before it proceeded further.

The commissioners agreed that reccent and proposed developments at the airport by the Port of Whitman warranted the lease increases.

"There have been considerable improvements," said Keifer.

Among additions to the airport is an increased water capacity and an improved electrical system.
