Textiles are the theme of this year's Demonstration Day
UNIONTOWN- Artisans at the Dahmen Barn will host its 16th annual Demonstration Day, "The Art of Textiles," Saturday, April 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Manager of the Dahmen Barn, Julie Hartwig, explained that the demonstrations include weaving, watercolor, felting, lace making, and sun dying.
Hartwig explained that the barn picks a different theme for their yearly Demonstration Day.
"We've done the art of metal, old world crafts, and this year we've picked textiles," she said.
Hartwig added that several guild members from The Palouse Weavers Guild are demonstrating weaving techniques and will have their 79th-anniversary exhibit at the barn in October.
Hartwig explained that the medium of weaving is an age-old practice, and new techniques have emerged, including using new products.
The event also features award-winning crazy quilter BJ Sandusky, Hartwig stated.
"She will be teaching a class April 14th and 15th at the barn," Hartwig added.
The Dahmen Barn developed demonstration days to highlight the creative processes of people from around the region. In addition, some of the Artists will have creations for sale at the event.
Hartwig encourages those who attend to visit with the artists as they demonstrate their art and take the opportunity to try the craft for themselves.
"Kids can learn the basic crochet stitch," she added, noting that many artists will teach throughout the year.
Artists featured at this year's Demonstration Day include Painting on Fabric with Jennifer Whitted, Block Printing on Fabric with Tracy Randall, Crazy Quilt Stitching with BJ Sandusky, Tapestry with Carole Triplett, Weaving with the Palouse Weavers Guild, Lace Making with Appaloosa Lace Guild, Leather Art with Rinehart Leather, Felting with Pat Boyer, and a crochet craft table for kids with JV Baldovi and Katie Deford.
