Students who have already won a state Proficiency Award this year will move on to the national level this summer. Those students are Derek Repp, who has a state-winning Proficiency Award in Agricultural Services Placement; Harley Hennigar, with a state-winning Proficiency Award in Equine Science Entrepreneurship; and Cadence Monson, who has a state-winning Proficiency Award in Diversified Crop Production Placement.
Heitstuman reports that two Agricultural Sales Teams qualified for state, and the Marketing Plan Team and four students in Agricultural Communication qualified for state in February.
“The state convention has a lot of different contests. We also had an extemporaneous speaker and a prepared public speaker qualify for state,” said Heitstuman.
The Colfax FFA team spends lots of time practicing, sometimes practicing until 8:30 p.m., notes Heitstuman.
Two other categories, the Soils, and Land Evacuation Team and Potato Evaluation Team, will also be recognized at the state convention. They competed in November.
