Pullman recognized as Tree City for 26th time

PULLMAN — Recognized for the 26th time as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation, Pullman Parks & Recreation will fulfill one of the requirements to earn Tree City USA recognition by holding its annual Arbor Day Celebration set to occur on April 25, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pullman Recreation Center located at 190 SE Crestview Street, Building “B.”

The City of Pullman was honored for its steadfast commitment to effective urban forest management.

“Earning Tree City USA is something we strive for every year. It’s a reflection of the knowledge and hard work of our Parks staff as well as the key contributions made by others from across our organization,”

Parks & Facilities Director Kurt Dahmen said.

Dahmen noted that trees’ health remains a priority for their team because of what trees offer the community aesthetically, environmentally, and otherwise.

When properly planted and maintained, trees are assets to a community by helping improve neighborhoods’ visual appeal, increasing property values, reducing home cooling costs, removing air pollutants, and providing wildlife habitat and many other benefits.

The event is open for the community to join as the Pullman Preschool class assists City staff in planting a tree on the Pullman Recreation Center grounds.
