WCL hosts Poet Christine McDonald

COLFAX — The Whitman County Library is hosting poet Christine McDonald at The Center Wednesday, April 19, at 11 a.m.

McDonald will read selections of her poems about nature, plants, and celebrating the beautiful world.

The event will honor Earth Day, which takes place the following weekend.

Attendees can enjoy readings from the following original poems:

“Where All That is Wild is Free,” “Wild Calling,” “Wonders,” “If Only Once,” and “An Invitation.”

McDonald lives with her husband and dog in the Palouse Hills of Eastern Washington. She is a passionate gardener and hiker. Her day job is as a forest soil scientist and environmental consultant.

Her first book, “My Two Mothers, A Collection of Poetry and Prose,” was released in 2017 and delved into the healing journey with her birth mother and the earth. The beauty of nature, these changing times, the divine mystery of the cosmos, the resilience of the human spirit, and connections with animals inspire her writing.

In her writing, McDonald brings her understanding of science, spirituality, and her love for the planet and animals together.

As well as published poetry collections, McDonald’s work is published in the Elephant, Journal, Sierra Club, Great Old Broads for Wilderness, and more.

McDonald’s current project is a children’s book with local artist Julene Ewert, “Just Imagine a More Beautiful World.”

In the fall and winter of 2021, Ewert displayed her artwork at The Center.

The event is for adults, but youth are welcome to join.
