Scaroni wheels her way to win in 1:41:45

BOSTON, Mass. – A Tekoa native won the Boston Marathon's Women's Wheelchair Division on Monday, April 17.
Having placed in the Top 5 in the division on previous Boston Marathons, Susannah Scaroni, 31, cruised to victory with more than 5 minutes to spare.
Scaroni won the race in 1:41.45, finishing ahead of Madison DeRozario and Wakako Tsuchida, who were second and third respectively.
Scaroni's best finishes previously were second in 2018 and third in 2014, 2015 and 2017, and fourth in 2016.
This year's win wasn't easy; she had to fix a loose wheel on the route.
Following the race, Scaroni told reporters she was looking forward to some sleep.
"I'm really hoping I can get some decent sleep hours in," Scaroni said. "I think that's where a lot of the magic happens for recovery."
Scaroni said her next marathon will be London.
After that, she's looking forward to returning home to race in Bloomsday in Spokane. That's a race she's won five times previously.
This year's Bloomsday race is Sunday, May 7.
A three-time Olympian, Scaroni won the gold medal in the women's 5,000-meter race in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games.
Injured in a vehicle crash at the age of 5, she has been wheelchair bound ever since.
Tekoa has a display dedicated to her at the entrance of Tekoa High School.
