Colfax softball finishes strong against NWC

COLFAX –– A late score in a close softball game against Northwest Christian (NWC) cost the Colfax Softball Varsity team the win.

The Bulldogs lost 9-6 in their first game against NWC when Lauren Heinrich singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run.

Despite the loss in the first game, the Bulldogs did collect 11 hits in the game.

Katy Coriell was on the rubber for NWC. She surrendered six runs on 11 hits over seven innings, striking out four.

Delaney Imler, however, was in the pitcher’s circle for Colfax Bulldogs Varsity. The righty lasted six innings, allowing nine hits and nine runs.

Colfax Bulldogs collected 11 hits on the day. Ava Swan and Imler all managed multiple hits for Colfax Bulldogs Varsity. Swan went 3-for-r at the plate to lead Colfax Bulldogs in hits.

NWC racked up nine hits in the game.

Katelynn Waters, Heinrich, and Abi Iverson collected multiple hits for NWC.

Colfax Bulldogs fired up the second game securing an 8-5 win.

Harper Booth gave NWC fits as she bagged four hits in the victory.

Booth doubled in the first and second and singled in the fourth and sixth.

NWC scored three runs in the second inning.

Kenzie Ritchie and Waters powered the big inning with RBIs for NWC.

Colfax Bulldogs Varsity secured the lead in the second inning when Booth singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.

Colfax Bulldogs Varsity took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth inning.

In the fourth inning, Katy Coriell induced Delaney Imler to hit into a fielder’s choice with one run scored. Harley Hennigar singled on a 1-0 count and scored one run.

Karmen Akkeson took the win for Colfax Bulldogs Varsity. The pitcher lasted five and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and five runs while striking out three.

Coriell started the game for NWC and surrendered eight runs on 14 hits over seven innings, striking out seven.

Colfax Bulldogs Varsity hit one home run on the day. Akkeson put one out in the fifth inning.

The Bulldogs totaled 14 hits. Booth, Akkeson, Swan, Brenna Gilchrist, and Hennigar all had multiple hits for Colfax. Booth went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Colfax Varsity in hits.

The girls will face their next and final game for the season on Tuesday, May 9, at Freeman Highschool.
