MALDEN - Main Street of Malden was closed Thursday, May 4, for the town's water project, confirmed Mayor Dan Harwood.
Harwood explained that they are doing a multitude of things for the water project.
"We are expanding our fire hydrant number around the town," he said, adding that they are putting an additional waterline in, which is why Main Street was closed.
Harwood noted that the line on Main Street and Broadway would come from the new well.
On Tuesday, May 9, Harwood told the Gazette that this might come later that day, and they were still figuring out a timeline.
Harwood stated that the Department of Commerce Public Works Board funds the project.
"It's sorely needed," he said of the project, noting that they have added fire hydrants on the east, north, and south side of town.
He further explained that they are working on annexing property on the east side of town, adding land adjacent to the town, and bringing it into city limits.
Harwood added that the project is ongoing.
"We've completed one annexation and are starting an additional one," he said.
