SJEL sees loss in doubleheader against Touchet

St. John –– The St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse (SJEL) Varsity Eagles baseball team took the loss against Touchet Varsity Redhawks in a doubleheader on Thursday, May 4.

In a no-hitter defeat, the Redhawks took their first win 5-0 against the Eagles.

Chester Bergevin took the hill to throw a no-hitter and led the Eagles to Victory.

The right-hander surrendered zero runs on zero hits over five innings, striking out eight and walking one.

Matthew DeFord was on the hill for SJEL Eagles. DeFord allowed six hits and five runs over five innings, striking out seven.

Kyler Pumphrey went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Touchet Varsity Redhawks in hits.

Touchet Varsity Redhawks played a strong game and didn't commit a single error on the field.

Touchet Varsity Redhawks quickly did away with SJEL Eagles in the day's second game, securing a final victory 12-1.

The Varsity Redhawks put up five runs in the fifth inning. Singles led the rally by Sam Kolb and Owen Godinez, a groundout by Hayden Kincaid, and an error on a ball put in play by Preston Frazier.

Jake Melhus was on the pitcher's mound for SJEL Eagles. The hurler lasted four innings, allowing five hits and nine runs while striking out three. Creighton Kauffman threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
