Avista proposes option for “safer gas transmission”
COLFAX — In a public hearing at the Palouse Community Center with a representative from Avista on Tuesday, May 9, Palouse City Administrator Misty La Follett confirmed that the city council determined the significance of a 4-inch steel gas line from West Main Street south through the City of Palouse Hayton Green Park and is moving forward.
“The city has approved it,” La Follett said.
The documents went to the Department of Ecology for shoreline management, and the city is waiting for their approval La Follet stated.
The gas line will continue south under the Palouse River and along Palouse Cove Road, ending at the existing regulator station near West Union Avenue.
Avista had submitted plans for pre-during and post-construction work within the park.
La Follette explained that the gas line runs on the bridge on the state highways, so Avista is rerouting it so it isn’t on the bridge.
“It will make safer gas transmission for the residents of Palouse,” La Follett said, noting that it positively impacts Palouse.
