COLTON- The Colton Wildcats lost their final home game of the season Monday, May 15, as they were defeated by the DeSales Irish 11-7.
The Wildcats now drop to 6-4 on the season in conference play, putting them tied for third in the conference with Sunnyside Christian.
For DeSales, they scored four runs in the top of the first inning to jump out to the early lead.
Colton would respond with a massive six runs of their own in the bottom half of the third inning to claim the 6-4 lead. Their lead, however, would only last the inning.
In the top of the fourth, the Irish would score three runs to take the 7-6 lead. They followed up that inning with one run in the fifth and three more runs in the sixth to dominate the later half of the game, and take the 11-7 victory.
Kate Dunham hit a two-run home run in the top of the sixth for the Irish.
Colton would get a run back in the bottom of the seventh as Kaydee Heitstuman doubled, which scored Kate Schultheis on the play.
Colton scored their runs early in the game, but could not produce any more runs besides the lone run in the seventh inning. The Wildcats allowed the Irish to come back from behind early, and build their lead in the late stages of the game to secure the victory.
DeSales has now increased their distance in the 1B Southeast Softball standings with the win against the Wildcats, they now hold an 8-4 league record. The Wildcats can move into sole possession of third in the district Wednesday, May 17 if DeSales defeat Sunnyside Christian.
