Memorial Day events planned across the county

COLFAX — Across Whitman County, service members will be honored in ceremonies over the course of the Memorial Day weekend.

Colfax

The Colfax American Legion Post will be placing small American flags at the graves of veterans at the Colfax Cemetery on May 26th at 8:00 a.m.

A ceremony is planned to be held at the Colfax Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 29th.

Due to difficulties encountered with hard soil in previous years, it is advised that volunteers bring cordless drills or screwdrivers to create holes for the flags. For more information of questions, call Colfax American Legion Post Commander Jim Lemon at (509) 595-5006.

Garfield

The G. Raymond McCown American Legion Post 24 will be laying wreaths at the Garfield Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 29th. Following the wreath-laying ceremony, a veteran’s luncheon will be held at the 112 E. Main Street.

Colton – Uniontown

The Boyd-Maynard Post No. 128 and Uniontown Post No. 214 of the American Legion will hold their annual joint Memorial Day observances to honor all fallen heroes on Monday, May 29th. American Legion, Auxiliary, and Sons of the Legion members, and all former service members wishing to participate will gather at the Colton public cemetery at 10:00 a.m. Those gathered will then proceed to the Colton Catholic cemetery. Immediately following the Colton program, ceremonies will be conducted at the neighboring Uniontown cemeteries.

Pullman

The American Legion Maynard-Price Post No. 52 is requesting community volunteer support to assist with placing flags at the graves of veterans in the City of Pullman. Volunteers are encouraged to meet at the Pullman City Cemetery on Saturday the 27th at 9 a.m., where labor will be divided amongst attendees.
