COLFAX — The Colfax Bulldogs are set to put their talents on display this weekend as they start their run at a 2B State Championship Friday, May 26 in Yakima, Washington.
Gateway Sports Complex in Yakima will see eight games played on Friday, followed by eight games on Saturday to crown a state champion.
Colfax is coming into the tournament as the No. 8 overall seed. They finished the regular season with a 19-4 overall record and a 17-3 conference record. Their four losses on the season were to Warden, Liberty, and Northwest Christian twice. Warden is currently the No. 2 overall seed in the tournament and Northwest Christian is the No. 5 overall seed. The second loss to the Crusaders for Colfax was the District Championship game last weekend.
The Bulldogs first opponent Friday in a loser-out game is the No. 9 overall Raymond-South Bend Seagulls. They finished the regular season with an overall record of 9-6, and went 5-3 in conference play.
The game against the Seagulls will see the loser head home after one game, with the winner advancing to a double-elimination style tournament.
The No. 1 overall seeded Adna Pirates await the winner between the Bulldogs and Seagulls. The Pirates finished the season with an overall record of 18-3, including a 12-0 conference record.
The first game Friday for the Bulldogs is a must-win if they want to be guaranteed to play any games Saturday. Should the Bulldogs win against the Seagulls, they will take on the Adna Pirates for a shot at the chance at the semifinal game Saturday. A loss against the Pirates will send the Bulldogs to the loser’s bracket, where the highest a team can finish is third place.
