Colfax observes fallen veterans on Memorial Day

Ceremony graced with one of the largest attendance turn-outs to date

COLFAX - Warm and sunny weather shed some light on the somber mood Monday, May 30, as locals gathered for the Remember and Honor Memorial Day Ceremony at the Colfax Cemetery. Over eighty locals surrounded the VFW War Memorial to pay respects to the fallen 309 veterans buried at Colfax Cemetery.

"Today was one of the largest crowds we've had in the past 23 years that I have been doing this," said Event Coordinator and Colfax Funeral Director Craig Corbeill. "I think the cemetery looks especially beautiful this year, and it takes a lot of hard work to get it to look this way, and we are especially proud of it."

Flags donated by Flags donated from the families of fallen soldiers were placed with the help of the Whitman County Historical Society and the Colfax FFA group. Rev. Robert Ingalls conducted the ceremony as the ceremony opened with prayer.

Craig and Kristina Willson performed musical selections, "America the Beautiful" and "The National Anthem."

The American Legion Post #41 and Cadence Monson from Colfax FFA remarked on the honorable day.

This was also the first year the Whitman County Sheriff's Posse appeared horseback at the ceremony.

"The weather was perfect. I think today couldn't have gone better."
