ROSALIA - Rosalia Garden Club is pleased to announce the winner of the June "Garden of the Month" honor.
The sign was placed in Margaret Severson's neat and compact garden last week and will stay in place until the end of June. Margaret has been a long- time gardener. She has been downsizing just slightly as the years pass. She also is community minded, having served on the park board and being a past member and president of Rosalia Garden Club.
Margaret also likes to incorporate yard art into her flower beds and displays one of the very early style antique cultivators. She finds it a conservation piece that goes well with her flowers and landscape. Besides ornamentals, Margaret also cares for vegetables and fruits that she enjoys, giving her a well-rounded landscape that keeps her healthy, and gives her great joy.
Although Margaret plans for continuous bloom throughout the season, she has no specialty in her cottage garden but she does have a heritage lilac, which came from her mother by way of her oldest sister. The variety originated in Russia and has beautiful, double blossoms. When the gardening season ends, she spends time quilting, and has become aware that there are similarities in creating a garden and creating a quilt. Both need scale, a variety of size and shapes, and colors that complement each other.
