Northwest Christian golfer wins boys State tournament, Tekoa-Rosalia girl finishes seventh

TUMWATER — After the conclusion of the WIAA 1B and 2B state golf tournament in Tumwater, Washington, Northwest Christian had a golfer finish first overall on the boys side, and the girls side saw a Tekoa-Rosalia golfer finish seventh.

Dan Harrington was the winner of the boys state golf tournament over the weekend in Tumwater with an overall score of 153, taking first place by four strokes. Harrington shot a 74 on the first day of the competition, the low for the tournament. He followed up his day one with a 79 on day two to secure the victory.

Harrington was one of eight golfers to shoot in the 70’s on the first day, and one of three to shoot in the 70’s on day two. He was also the only golfer in the tournament to shoot in the 70’s for both days.

On the girls side, the winner was Makenna Kelpman of Sound Christian. She shot a total score of 152, winning state by six strokes.

Chase Caruso of Pomeroy finished second overall with a total score of 158. She shot a 79 on both days of the tournament.

Maddie Haas of Tekoa-Rosalia finished seventh overall with a total score of 189. She shot 88 on the first day, then had a hiccup day two, shooting 101.

Both Kelpman and Caruso shot under 80’s on both days of the tournament for the girls, they were the only two to do so. They were also the only girls to break 80 at any point in the tournament.
