Athletes see many victories, including Championship win by Garfield-Palouse
The Bulldogs competed over the weekend in the WIAA 2B state track and field meet in Yakima, Washington.
For the boys, there were three representatives from the Bulldogs who helped earn Colfax 23rd overall in state.
Zachary Cooper competed in the 110m hurdles, pole vault, and 100m dash. He failed to qualify for the finals in both running events, but placed second in state in pole vault with a height of 13-09, a PR of over a well over a foot for Cooper.
Alex Binks competed in the shot put for Colfax, he placed 12th overall after a throw of just over 40 feet.
Drew Vantine finished sixth overall in state for discus after he threw a PR throw of 136-08. This was a seven foot PR for him.
On the girls side, they finished 10th in the 4 X 100 relay, missing out on finals by two places. They also finished third overall in the 4 X 200 relay, scoring points for the Bulldogs. They missed out on the state championship by two seconds. The runners for the Bulldogs in the 4 X 200 were Jaisha Gibb, Charlotte McCulloh, Adisyn Ring, and Destiny Nelson.
The Bulldogs also ran the 4 X 400m relay, but finished 12th, missing out by four places.
Paige Claassen and Gibb were the only Bulldogs competing not in a relay for the girls side in the tournament. Claassen placed fifth overall in the pole vault with a height of nine feet, a PR for her. Gibb placed 15th in the long jump with a jump of 13-05.
St. George's won both the boys and girls 2B state championships. They scored 52 points in the boys division to edge out Chewelah, who scored 48 points. On the girls side, they scored 118 points, good to top the division, and beat second place Okanogan by almost seven points.
Davenport would finish fourth in state for the 2B girls with 33.33 points. Asotin finished 10th with 22 points. Lind-Ritzville finished 28th and Northwest Christian finished 29th. Liberty would finish 32 with four points.
For the 2B boys side, Davenport finished 10th with 22 points. Liberty would finish 16th with 18 points, followed by Reardan with 16 points. Lind-Ritzville and Colfax both had 11 points in the tournament. Northwest Christian would finish with 10 points and Asotin finished with three points.
Lucas Paul finished second in the 400m for Liberty with a time of 50.73. Evan Gunning finished third in the 300m hurdles with a time of 40.34.
Colby Shamblin took first in javelin with a throw of 166-03 for Northwest Christian.
On the girls side, Glenna Soliday took first in the girls 100m hurdles with a time of 16.38 for Davenport. She also won the 300m hurdles with a time of 45.55.
Haylee Appleford of Asotin won the girls shot put with a throw of 38-02.
1B State
Garfield-Palouse ran away with the girls state championship, they scored 98 points, winning the tournament by 33 points. On the boys side, they finished fourth overall with 43 points.
On the individual side, Kennedy Cook took first place in the girls 1B 200m with a PR run of 25.47. She also won the 400m. In the 800m, Ashleigh Hightree finished third overall, she also took second in the 1600m run and the 3200m. First place in the 3200m run was taken by her teammate Lola Edwards, who beat out Hightree by two seconds.
The Garfield-Palouse girls also took second in both the 4 X 200m relay and 4 X 400m relay.
Ava Hemphill took third in shot put and fourth in discus for Garfield-Palouse.
Samantha Pfaff took second in the high jump with a jump of 5-02.
On the boys side, Garfield-Palouse took first and second in the 1600m run, as well as the 3200m run. Kieran Snekvik took first in the 1600, and second in the 3200, while Brendan Snekvik took second in the 1600, and first in the 3200.
For Oakesdale, the girls placed sixth overall with 43 points. Jessie Reed placed third in the 100m dash with a time of 13.38, second was 13.33, and first was 13.30. Reed also placed fifth in the 200m dash.
Grace Perry and Marilla Hockett placed seventh and eighth in the 400m. Hockett finished fifth in the 800m. The girls placed fifth in the 4 X 100m and 4 X 200m relay.
Gianna Anderson threw a PR in the javelin to earn second place in state, her throw was 118-04.
Bradyn Henley rounded out the scoring for the Oakesdale girls with a second place in the triple jump with a jump of 33-07.
On the boys side for Oakesdale, they finished 19th overall with 13 points. Shawn Bober placed seventh in state for discus after he had a throw of 109-02, which was a PR for him. Jackson Perry would place fifth in javelin and third in the high jump. Logan Brown also placed eighth in the javelin for Oakesdale.
For St. John, the girls would finish 12th with 15 points, the boys would finish 13th with 18 points.
The St. Johns girls scored all their points in the field events. Their points started with Chloe Waddell, who finished second in the shot put after a PR in the event. She also finished ninth in the discus.
Emery Molina finished seventh high jump with a jump of 4-08, she also came fourth in the pole vault at 8-06. Julia Guske placed ninth in the event as well.
On the boys side, Rory Maloney finished third overall in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.34. He also finished fifth in the 300m hurdles. He also finished 11th in the triple jump.
Pedro Molina finished second overall in the long jump with a jump of 19-07.
For Tekoa-Rosalia, the boys finished 14th with 17.5 points. Brian Place finished eighth in the 400m with a time of 55.14.
Erik Lazcano finished fifth in the 1600m with a time of 4:43:55. He also finished third in the 3200m with a time of 10:23:05.
Riley Gehring finished seventh in the shot put with a throw of 40-02. Gabe Morgan also finished 10th in the event. Gehring would also finish fourth in the high jump with a jump of 5-10.
