Serving Whitman County since 1877
COLFAX - The Perkins House held its annual Ice Cream Social Saturday, June 17, at North Perkins Avenue.
The afternoon was sunny as the lawn of the historic Perkins house filled with locals and the Perkins family, who had traveled from afar to revisit and celebrate the historical family that started Whitman County.
Perkins House volunteers served ice cream, and a fashion show was put on with kids. Other volunteers sported fashion over 100 years old, showcasing a time before them.
Tours were available of the cabin, the first house built in the county, that the Perkins family resided in before moving to the larger home, where attendees had the chance to explore what life was like for the Perkins.
Director of the Whitman County Historical Society, Valerie Gregory, stated that the Ice Cream Social has been going on for about fifty years and started around 1972.
Gregory had explained that the current social was the first they'd been able to serve ice cream since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tours of the Perkins house are available on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
