Vendors join the lineup for this year’s Summer Dayz Car Show
ST. JOHN — The second annual Summer Dayz Car Show is set for Saturday, June 24.
Everyone is welcome to enter their rig into the show and show off their hard work, dedication and creativity in their vehicles.
Some of the planned activities will include a car show, poker walk, food, a beer garden, and more.
“The first year we had a good turnout, we’re hoping between 80 and 100 cars this year,” said Dan Thomas, St. John Auto Body and Custom employee, and organizing helper for event.
The main difference between this year and the year previous was that there will be vendors. This adds more for fans and locals walking by enjoying the show.
“We didn’t have any vendors last year, hopefully this year vendors will encourage more people to come out and enjoy the day,” Thomas said.
Along with the car show, there will be more fun activities put on by Thomas and others.
“We have more activities in town this time around. We have a community wide yard sale, fun-run, and a try-athlon,” Thomas said.
The “try-athlon” will be the first time the event will take place in St. John. The event is not a typical triathlon.
The event starts with trap shooting, which takes place at the St. John Gun Club. The competitors have 25 shots with their shotguns to shoot as many of the 25 clay pigeons as they can. Ammo rounds are available to purchase if competitors d not have any rounds.
The next event is be golf. This is the only time the competitors will move locations, with this section taking place at the golf course. Competitors will play nine holes of golf, keeping track of their scores.
After golf, the competitors will take part in the last part of the competition, which will be a horse shoe toss. The contest will be a 1/2 set up where competitors will have a total of nine shoes to get the highest score. A ringer shot will be three points, two points for a leaner, and one point if it is touching the stake.
Each competitor will take part in all three events, with prizes given out to the top total scorers. The event is being put on by the Eagles/Wildcats Athletics Booster Clubs.
Thomas also said that they are closing down more of the street this year to add more room for cars, vendors, and fun. They also are expecting a bigger turnout for their “funny cars”.
“Last year we had two funny cars, this year we’re expecting six to eight,” Thomas said.
Action for the St. John Summer Dayz car show kicks off Saturday, June 24, and will go from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
