COA receives over $12,000 to go towards new van

COLFAX - Council on Aging was awarded $12,300 by United Way of Whitman County for the "match" towards a brand-new COAST ADA-accessible van on Wednesday, July 5.

Council On Aging Executive Director Paige Collins stated that the Washington State Department of Transportation funds 80 percent of the costs.

Executive Director of United Way of Whitman County, Deanna Bren, presented the check to Collins on Wednesday.

"Thanks to the United Way, we are only in need of an additional $6,461 in funding," Collins said.

Collins explained that the prices of the vans have gone up significantly, so as a grant writer, she'll be reaching out to their favorite foundations and granters.

"We have some great ones," she said of the foundations they've worked with.

She explained that many of COA's older vans have a lot of miles, so they've had to put a lot of money into them while waiting on new vans.

"We're super thankful for United Way again this year for supporting our cause," Collins said.
