St. John is alive with "The Sound of Music!"

ST. JOHN — Roger and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music!” is coming to St. John, entirely produced and performed by youth, for four days, Friday, July 28 through Sunday, July 30, at St. John High School, 301 West Nob Hill Street.

“The Sound of Music!” is the Golden House Theatre’s third annual production, featuring a cast of actors ages 6 to 22.

Co-directed by Recent EWU graduate and St. John local Dominic Treis, 22, his family, and four other families.

Treis stated that while earning his degree in audio engineering, he took several music classes, including violin lessons, voice lessons, music theory classes and playing in the orchestra.

“My family is very musical,” Treis said, adding that his mom and dad met in high school choir. “We always loved singing and always loved acting,” he said.

Treis shared that he always participated in the musicals that they put on when he went to St. John High School.

“There had been no musicals since COVID-19 hit,” he said, adding that they decided to start their theatre called the Golden House Theatre.

“This is our third production,” Treis said, adding that it’s their most extensive production yet.

Treis stated that St. John’s school kindly let them use the stage for the production.

“We’re trying to make this as big a gift to the community as we can,” he said, adding that they do it because they love it. In light of doing it for the love of music, they are not charging people to attend the production.

“We don’t want anybody to be turned away,” he said, “We want them to be able to experience this amazing musical,” adding that they will accept donations to help with production costs.

Showtimes are Friday, July 28, at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, July 29, at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.; and Sunday, July 30, at 2 p.m.
