COLFAX — The Colfax swim team is two weeks through their season, with four meets left, including the Tri-County Championship, which takes place August 5.
This season, Colfax was able to purchase new swim lines for their pool from money acquired through generous donations and support from locals businesses last year. The lines are on their way to the pool, and should be implemented before the championship meet.
Monday, July 31 is when the swim team is hosting a fundraising day to raise money to cover the cost of the 2024 swim season. The event will run from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The swim team has committed to swim one full hour in order to raise the money.
The money raised from the event will be used to cover registration costs for the 2024 swim season. They will also use the funds for a new starting buzzer, team laptop for swim meets, and replacing some of the worn out flippers and kick boats. The swimmers will also be competing for raffle tickets to enter into raffle drawings. There will also be a top money raiser prize and most laps swam prize during the event.
On July 17, the swim team started collecting flat donations from businesses, families, and neighbors.
The swimmers each have a swimmers fee of $40. The money helps cover the cost of team equipment needs, ribbons and trophies costs, and other expenses to hold successful swim meets. Additional fees for swim suits, goggles, and additional personal needs for the sport are also paid by the swimmers.
The swim team as a whole is responsible for paying the Colfax City Pool for the rental fee of the pool. Since Colfax does not charge admissions fees to swim, the team is responsible for fundraising the money to cover the charge of the pool rental.
It is around $104 an hour to rent the pool for the swim team, and the swim team will spend around 50 hours in total using the pool for practices, meets, and other pool time usage.
Along with the registration costs the swim team is fundraising for, they are also looking to purchase a swim laptop. All swim meets are ran through a computer program. Currently, the Colfax swim team does not have their own laptop computer. Various parents/coaches and others have used their own personal laptop to download the program to use for every swim meet. The swim team would like to purchase a laptop that can be used only for the swim team.
The laptop is not the only thing needing an upgrade from the Colfax swim team. Last season, their starting buzzer ran out of gas, but has currently been mended for use this season, Should the buzzer fail, they will resort to using a whistle, which is hard for the swimmers to hear at times.
The swim team is also trying to fundraise to be able to provide scholarships to swimmers who want to compete for the Colfax swim team, but do not have the funds and financial capabilities to do so.
Being able to be a part of the swim team is something that helps keep the kids active and gives them a place to spend their day in a safe, healthy place.
