Palouse Empire Fairgrounds to host Jackpot Barrel Race August 6

COLFAX — As part of the Northwest Barrel Horse Association’s (NWBHA) district 3 season, a jackpot barrel racing event will take place at the Palouse Empire Fairgrounds, welcoming contestants of all competition levels.

The NWBHA is a registered non-profit organization, with District 3 spanning Adams, Asotin, Garfield, and Whitman Counties in Washington, as well as Latah, Nez Perce, Lewis, Clearwater, and Idaho Counties in Idaho.

“We have established ourselves as a welcoming and supportive group that provides the type of competition that members choose to participate in and prioritize on their calendars. We strive to meet the needs and wants of our members by holding our events in safe arenas, inviting professional and amateur photographers to capture quality photos for print and social media usage, providing a consistent and transparent adult production, and by having some of the best year-end awards in our local unique community!” said Cheyenne Gaspar, NWBHA District 3 Director.

On event day, which takes place Sunday, August 6, practice runs (Time Only) will start at 9:30 a.m., and run for one hour. The actual barrel racing will start at 11 a.m.

The event will start with the PeeWee participants, then will move to the Open class.

“We average around 100 contestants total across all classes,” Gaspar said.

Gaspar also went on to say that this year the company has received a huge increase in memberships and participants due to sponsorships secured.

“We will be awarding five championship saddles at the end of our season, with support from Clearwater River Casino, Community Bank, Idaho Central Credit Union, Lewis Clark Credit Union, Diamond B Ranch Quarter Horses and Mules, Farm Bureau Insurance - Taylor Orellana, Twisted Poppy Salon, and Hot Shots Espresso,” Gaspar said.
