WSU Cougars to open soccer season next week

PULLMAN — The Lower Soccer Field in Pullman will come to life throughout August as the Washington State University (WSU) Cougars begin their 2023 season.

WSU will start their season on the road Thursday, August 10, as they travel to Spokane to take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs.

The first home game for WSU will be Thursday, August 17, as they will host Eastern Washington University. The game against Eastern Washington will be a “WAZZU White Out” theme, giving away white t-shirt to early arriving fans.

The next home game for WSU will be Sunday, August 27, as WSU will host Weber State. This game will kick off at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 31 will be a “Beach Party” theme game against San Diego State. There will be a giveaway of Cougar bucket hats.

Including the August 27 and 31 home games, WSU will have eight straight home games.

Thursday, September 14, will be against Seattle U. The theme for this game is “Swifties at the Pitch”. During this game there will be a friendship bracelet station, and Taylor Swift music will be played throughout the game.

The first PAC-12 game for WSU during 2023 will take place on Friday, September 22 ,against the Stanford Cardinal. The match will be a “Flashback Friday” theme, including shutter shade sunglasses and glow sticks being given away, as well as a chance to win a vintage handheld gaming system.

WSU will host games against USC and UCLA this season, with WSU taking on USC Thursday, September 28, and UCLA on Sunday, October 1.

The last home game for WSU in 2023 will be Sunday, October 22 as they will host the Utah Utes. This game will be Senior Night for all WSU seniors who will be graduating from the University in either December or May.

WSU will try to have a better season than in 2022, which was one that WSU is not proud of. In 2022, the Cougars finished with an overall record of 8-7-4. This was a disappointing season for the Cougars, as they had a seven-game winning streak at the beginning of the season.

After October 2, WSU did not win another game, and finished their eight games in October with one win, two draws, and five losses.

All home games for WSU will be played at The Lower Soccer Field in Pullman, and are always free entry for all.
