WHMC Auxiliary starts new fundraising campaign

COLFAX — The Whitman Hospital and Medical Clinics Auxiliary recently launched a fundraising campaign through a mail-order company called Flower Power.

Flower Power provides spring and summer bulbs, including tulips and daffodils, and winter tubers, such as Amaryllis and Paperwhites.

WHMC Auxiliary President Robyn Tramposch explained that Mayfest was a yearly fundraiser in May. The fundraiser entailed selling plants, a rummage sale with clothing and housing items and a breakfast and soup bar. With the COVID-19 pandemic, they weren’t able to resume the event.

Tramposch stated that the auxiliary was looking for something to raise money that would revolve around plants because they know that so many Whitman County residents are gardeners, “We found this organization that has all kinds of plants bulbs and seeds that they sell,” she said, adding that the Auxiliary then gets half of the purchase price.

“We’re hoping we can raise some money off that,” Tramposch said, noting that while it will probably not be as much as they made with Mayfest, every little bit helps their cause.

The auxiliary group hopes to gain a new tradition with the Flower Power campaign. “We still need to raise money and feel this is a win-win for our members and those who love to garden,” she said.

The WHMC Auxiliary has raised over $400,000 since 1954 to purchase hospital equipment, such as the curved mammography paddles for imaging and vein finders used in phlebotomy. Mayfest provided a significant fundraiser for the Auxiliary to help the hospital meet immediate needs.

Gardeners who want to place orders can search WHMCauxiliary.fpfundraising.com for all the details or use the QR code available on flyers distributed throughout Whitman County.

Flower Power ships the first order for free, followed by a standard $6.99 charge per order, regardless of size. Fall orders are due October 15, 2023, and holiday orders by December 15. Holiday orders received by December 1 will be shipped in time for Christmas. Orders are shipped first come, first served.
