COLFAX — With the upcoming high school sports season set to kick-off in about two weeks, Colfax high school is gearing up for the start of the 2023 football season.
The Bulldogs are returning six starters from last season, but lost eight starters from 2022, the Bulldogs are in need of new starters and bodies to make an immediate impact.
Colfax also graduated 10 lettermen players from last season, but are returning 10 letterman players for the upcoming season, where the Bulldogs first game is Friday, September 1, a home game against Lind-Ritzville Sprague (LRS) at 7 p.m.
Last season, the Bulldogs finished with a 2-8 overall record, however, head coach Mike Morgan has high hopes for the upcoming season.
“We play in one of the top leagues in the state. Any team could win the league. We should be competitive again,” Morgan said in a questionnaire presser.
Morgan will be entering his 27th year as head coach of the Bulldogs team. He also will be in his 33 year at the school. He boasts a coaching record of 170-82.
The school has not made a football playoff appearance since the 2019 season, their best ever finish was in 2001 when they won the state 1A title. In 2009 and 2010 they were state runner-ups.
The team will have a solid amount of returning starters coming back that will be impact full for the team. Seth Lustig, a senior quarterback/defensive-back will be a returning starter this season and should bring his experience to the team to have success on the offensive side of the ball. Tanner Senter, a senior running back/linebacker, will backbone the defensive side of the ball, and should have massive production running the ball.
