Colton holds successful Rally at the Red Barn event

COLTON — The 5th Quarter Rally fundraising event in Colton took place Friday, August 4, at the Red Barn.

The event was a fundraiser for supporting Pullman Regional Hospital’s Athletic Training Program.

In total, the event raised over $87,000 for the Regional High School Athletic Training Program.

The event was put on, and was a success thanks to the event planning committee. The committee consisted of the Foundation board members Connie Newman, event chair, Ken Casavant, Rick Emtman, Jean Logan, Ty Meyer, and Amy Rogers.

The money raised from the event will be used in coordination with the four local high schools (Colton, Pullman, Garfield-Palouse, and Potlatch) to provide the schools with well-trained athletic trainers, as well as equipment and resources for student-athletes to use free-of-charge.

The athletic trainers at each of the four schools will be on a three-year contract at their schools to provide full-service athletic training benefits, that will also have benefits and structures tailored to each school.

The athletic trainers will also attend every sporting event at their designated school, including practices, games, camps, and other special activities per school.

This program is a combination of a partnership between the Orthopedic Center of Excellence, a partnership with Pullman Regional Hospital (PRH) and Inland Orthopedics and Sport Medicine, as well as the Washington State University Athletic Training Program.

Each athletic trainer will also be accompanied by and assisted by two Washington State University athletic training students.

For program costs, each year of operations costs $333,000. Of that, $166,000 is covered by PRH, and $166,00 is funded through philanthropy.
