Business takes appointments and walk-ins
ROSALIA - A Salon and Barber is open here at 317 N. Whitman Ave.
Owner Lisa Hill, 56, of Spokane, opened the new local business citing a need for a salon.
"We've been pursuing it off and on for two years," she said. "So, God opened a door, and here we are."
A hairdresser for 38 years, she said many community members had approached; they were tired of driving so far to get a haircut "and just how expensive gas was."
Hill's husband, who moved to Rosalia as a high school junior, is also the Rosalia Community Church pastor.
The Hills started looking for a place since "right after COVID-19 was ending, and we couldn't find a place in Rosalia," Mrs. Hill said.
A local resident had the current location and offered it to them for a salon, she said.
So far, Mrs. Hill said she has 6-8 customers a week in Rosalia.
She comes to Rosalia Tuesday night to open the salon on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
She also opens the first Saturday of the month for Barber Day.
Prospective customers can make appointments.Walk-ins are accepted if time is available.
She offers manicures, pedicures and gel nail polish, but not gel nails.
"I don't do acrylics," she said. "I know how to do them, but I choose not to."
Other services include perms, color, color correction, foils, frost, barber cuts, military cuts, businessman cuts and children's haircuts.
She also offers wedding and prom styling, roller sets for older and younger ladies, and blow-dry curling iron styles.
Although Mrs. Hill has a lot of things she still plans to do with the business - such as painting, and transforming a room into a store and waiting area - she is excited to have her business up and running.
Once open, the store will feature Paparazzi Jewelry and Avon, which Mrs. Hill sells, as well as her husband's and her crafts.
"I sew, a little bit of painting, signs, my husband is getting into woodworking," she said. "So, we'll have all kinds of stuff."
Starting a business has been challenging for the couple.
Mrs. Hill said her husband was in the U.S. Coast Guard, so the couple did a lot of traveling. But she is ready to get started.
"I'm generally pretty busy," she said. "I love it."
The community is excited to have a salon and barber in town, she said, with some residentsbringing in a couple of teenage girls to check it out.
"They're excited they don't have to go to Spokane to do prom stuff," Mrs. Hill said.
