Dorman looks forward to second season as coach
COLFAX — Following an impressive 2022 season, the Bulldogs girls volleyball team, under Coach Megan Dorman, are looking to return to state.
Dorman is in her second year as head coach. But she’s not new to Whitman County.
Before coaching Colfax, she coached at the St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse girls from 2007-19.
Colfax volleyball runs through her family.
Her mother, Sue Doering, coached for Colfax starting in 1998. Before then, Doering coached Deer Park.
“I played for my mom in junior high and high school until I graduated from Colfax in 2001,” Dorman said. “And then went on to play at Pacific Lutheran University for two years before I started coaching.”
Dorman said she always wanted to coach Colfax since returning home.
She coached the Eagles and raised her family in the St. John-Endicott School District. So, it was hard to leave.
That changed when the Colfax position opened two years ago.
“I’m looking forward to continuing to increase the excitement for volleyball in Colfax,” she said. “All of the girls showed so much progress last season and I’m excited to improve on the girls’ successes as individual athletes, as well as a team.”
Dorman talked about the unexpected twists and turns each season brings, especially with injuries.
“We can’t control injuries or graduation, but we can control how we react to them,” she said.
With a new team and new season, she is prepared to change lineups and positions on the fly, she said.
Dorman said her coaching strengths is her composure on the bench.
She talked about not teaching her players to get too high on the good parts in a game, and not too upset with the downs.
“We can only control ourselves as individuals and our side of the court as a team,” Dorman said.
She expects her Bulldogs to work hard, embrace their roles and play with an open mind.
Colfax’s 2022 season ended with a loss in the state 2B championship game to La Conner.
