Football, volleyball and cross country to start soon
WHITMAN COUNTY — The summer has ended, school is back in session, and the 1B Whitman County teams are ready to make names for themselves this year.
Football, volleyball, and cross country are all set to start this week.
St. John-Endicott (SJE) is set to open their football season one day earlier than most. They are hosting the first game of the season Thursday, August 31, against Garfield-Palouse, the game is set to start at 7 p.m. SJE also has their second game of the season on a Thursday, with the game being another home game against Wilbur-Creston on Thursday, September 7.
Colton/Genesse open their football season Friday, September 1, as they travel to take on Potlatch at 7 p.m.
For Whitman County 1B volleyball, the Oakesdale Nighthawks are by far the team to beat. Having won state the last two years, all eyes are on them as they begin their quest for another trophy.
The Nighthawks open their title defense Thursday, August 31, at Freeman High School, competing in the Freeman jamboree. The first game to go in the record books for the Nighthawks is on Tuesday, September 5, as they travel to Liberty to take on the Lancers at 6 p.m.
The Colton Wildcats begin their volleyball season Tuesday, September 12, against the Dayton Bulldogs. The game is set to start at 6 p.m. in Colton.
The Garfield-Palouse Vikings (GAR-PAL) open their season Tuesday, September 5, against Prescott. The game is set to start at 6 p.m. GAR-PAL has their first district game of the year next Tuesday, September 12, taking on Pomeroy. The game is at Pomeroy, and will start at 6 p.m.
SJE is hosting Odessa for a non-district game Tuesday, September 5, at 6 p.m. to start their season. They then play against Pomeroy Wednesday, September 6, at home starting at 6 p.m.
Tekoa-Rosalia is waiting until Thursday, September 14, to start their season. They will travel to Dayton to take on the Bulldogs at 6 p.m.
For Cross Country, SJE starts Thursday, September 7, at the Valley Christian Jamboree meet.
