Gar-Pal with impressive showings in cross country meets

PALOUSE — The Garfield-Palouse (GAR-PAL) Vikings headlined the class 1B showings at the Valley Christian Jamboree at Valley Christian School in Spokane Valley. The meet took place Wednesday, Sept. 6.

There were two other track meets during the week that local Whitman County Schools competed in. On Tuesday, Sept. 5, the Colfax Bulldogs cross country team competed in the Josh Wright Memorial Jamboree and Mud Run at Northwest Christian school in Colbert.

On Saturday, Sept. 9, GAR-PAL competed in the Highlander Invitational at Shadle Park high school in Spokane.

For the Josh Wright Memorial meet, Colfax sophomore Brandon Pingle placed 25th overall with a two mile run of 21:06. Sophomore Keagan Mackleit placed 30th with a run of 28:58.

For the girls, Bulldog senior Destiny Nelson placed 10th overall with a two mile run time of 20:34. Sophomore Paige Eads ran a time of 25:21 for 15th place, and sophomore Queenie Mayer placed 17th with a run of 25:55.

In the Valley Christian Jamboree, GAR-PAL juniors Brendan and Kieran Snekvik stole the show for the Vikings. The twins placed first and second in the two mile run. Brendan won the meet with a time of 11:19.259, and Kieran placed second with 11:19.279.

Also in the event was Viking sophomore Isaiah Hightree, who placed 11th in the meet after running a time of 12:39.142. Sophomore Ayden Bassler placed 15th after a run of 13:21.399, and freshman Ethan Lawson and sophomore Liam Cook finished 18th and 19th. Lawson ran 13:42.960, and Cook ran 13:51.771.

For the girls, Vikings Ashleigh and Courage Hightree took first and second in the two miles as well. Ashleigh placed first with a run of 13:43.675, while Courage took second with a run of 14:20.272.

GAR-PAL sophomore Charlotte Marshall took fourth with a run of 15:11.269, and freshman Sievers Arabella took fifth with a run of 15:48.881. Sophomore HettyLee Laughary took eighth overall to round out GAR-PALs’ top five girls runners.

In the Highlander Invitational meet, freshman Lawson took 31st in the freshman group with a 2.5 mile run time of 16:44. Gage Adams took 71st with a run of 20:18.20 to round out the Vikings freshman run.

In the sophomore run, Hightree took 16th with a run of 15:44.60, and Bassler took 28th with a run of 16:25.60. Cook finished 40th in the sophomore race after he ran his race in 17:10.90.

In the junior race, Kieran took fifth with a time of 13:40.67, while Brendan took sixth with a time of 13:40.92. They were the only Vikings juniors to race.

For the girls, Marshall placed 17th in the sophomore race with a time of 18:32.62.

In the junior race, Hightree ran a time of 17:46.05, good for 10th.
