Charles Lee Olmstead, 91, of College Place, Wash., died at Park Manor, Sept. 14, 2023.
Charles was born on July 15, 1932, to Mildred and Glen Olmstead, in Spokane, Washington. After graduating from LaCrosse, Washington High School in 1950 he joined the US Navy. Charles served during the Korean War aboard the USS Epperson.
He married his wife of 68 years, Lois Ann Malby at St Joseph’s Church in LaCrosse, Wash., in 1955. They had four children.
Charles worked for Albertson’s and managed the store in Walla Walla, Wash., for twenty years. After retirement he owned and operated grocery stores in Prosser, Walla Walla and Grandview, Washington.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, and his children: Vicki Ruley (Steve), Charles Glen Olmstead (Rebecca) Walla Walla, Wash., Tami Olmstead, with whom he made his home in College Place, Wash., and Judy Van Schoaick (Jesse) Mesquite, Nevada. His seven grandchildren: Shawna Ruley Corbett (David), Marc Ruley, Carolynn Olmstead, Heidi Simmons Lewis (Jeremy) Walla Walla, Heather Ruley Hammell (Abe) La Crescent, Minnesota, Ryan Van Schoiack, Seattle, and Amber Van Schoiack Hornvedt (Bryson), Wolf Point, Mont., and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Walla Walla Valley Disability Network.
