Threats directed at multiple schools in Eastern Washington
COLFAX — Local radio station NewsTalk KFLD 870 am/98.7 FM reported a false bomb threat at Colfax High School on Monday, Oct. 9.
“It has been brought to our attention that NewsTalk KFLD 870 am/98.7 FM has reported that there was a recent bomb threat at Colfax High School. We have received no bomb threats today or any other day this school year,” said Colfax High School Superintendent Jerry Hugh.
However, this false report comes after Ritzville High School received a bomb threat on Thursday, Oct. 5.
A local student and another juvenile in Iowa may face charges for the threat that prompted local leaders to shutter schools in Adams County.
Police Chief Dave McCormick said Monday that there was never a real threat there but that local school officials and law enforcement never take any chances.
The bomb threat was sent via email to a school official at about 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, the chief said. But that official didn’t see the email until about noon Thursday.
When the email was opened and read, school leaders sent students home and shut down both Ritzville Grade and Lind-Ritzville High schools.
Ritzville and Othello police, Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies, city ambulance and road crews, and two K-9 bomb units from Fairchild Air Force Base responded.
Teachers searched their classrooms for anything unusual, and the K-9 units checked common areas, such as Gilson Gymnasium.
“They found nothing,” McCormick said.
