LACROSSE - During LaCrosse's second annual Harvest dinner on Sunday, Oct. 8, Executive Director of Washington's Main Street program, Breanne Durham, presented LaCrosse Community Pride a $3,000 grant through its Washington Main Street program to put a new motor in the community pool.
Executive Director of LaCrosse Community Pride (LCP) Sarah Kane said that she was able to attend the Revitalized Washington Conference Wednesday, Oct. 4, through Friday, Oct. 6, and was one of six who was able to present at the conference in Vancouver.
Kane said everyone could vote, and LCP was selected to receive funds for a pool motor.
Though LCP is not affiliated with the pool, "we want to help with everything," Kane said, adding that stipulations of the grant included it being a project they were not working on and the project to focus on the community's health.
"It's a place in the summertime for kids and older people to go," Kane said, noting that it's one of the few leisures LaCrosse has, so they applied for it.
Kane said that once LCP receives the check, they will order the new pool motor.
"It was a fantastic success," LaCrosse resident and Director of Colfax Council on Aging, Paige Collins, said of the annual dinner, noting the weather was wonderful and there were approximately 100 people in attendance.
Collins added that 13 Whitman County Association of Wheat Growers members attended and presented a donation supporting LCP's work.
Collins said lunch included barbacoa beef, salad, and refried beans, adding that local entrepreneur Rikki Johnson made wheat buttercream cookies for dessert.
