St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse kick off Homecoming

ST. JOHN — The St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse (SJEL) Eagles are in the middle of their homecoming week long festivities.

They have spirit week and activities happening at school throughout this week, with their homecoming dance happening Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.

On Tuesday, Oct. 10, the Eagles had their homecoming volleyball match. The game was played in St. John, and was against the Garfield-Palouse (GAR-PAL) Eagles. The match would last four sets, with the Eagles winning the match.

The first set saw the Eagles lead 5-0 early. Then push their lead to 16-5 before a timeout from the Vikings. SJEL would go on to win the set 25-9.

In the second set, the Eagles seemed to let off the gas slightly. They trailed 12-8 in the set before going down 19-13. GAR-PAL would ultimately take the set 25-17.

In the third set the Eagles dominated. They were comfortably in front the whole set, taking it 25-5.

In the fourth set they once again seized their opportunities, and won the match after winning the fourth set 25-8.

In the game, Cami Larsen had seven aces to lead SJEL. Kaitlyn Hough had 15 kills, and Emery Molina had 11.

Setter Julia Guske had 32 assists and eight digs in the match.

SJEL will also take on the Oakesdale Nighthawks on Thursday, Oct. 12, in St. John.

The volleyball game will be a pink out theme, and is expected to be the top match up in Whitman County.

Oakesdale are currently ranked as the number one overall team in the state for 1B volleyball, according to the WIAA RPI rankings. SJEL is currently number three in state.

On Friday, Oct. 13, the Eagles football team will have their homecoming game. The game will be played in St. John and is against the DeSales Irish. Kick off for the game is set for 7 p.m.

On the season, the Eagles are 1-5 in football. They won their first game of the season last Friday, Oct. 6, against the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves. The defeated Tekoa-Rosalia 60-30.

Their opponent, DeSales, are currently 4-2 on the season. They are riding a one-game losing streak heading into the game, but were victorious in their last three games prior.

These two teams met last season, with DeSales running away with the 76-0 victory over the Eagles.
