Serving Whitman County since 1877
COLFAX — Whitman County Public Works Director Mark Storey told county commissioners Monday, Oct. 16, that the solid waste scale project is nearly done.
“Solid waste scale project is basically complete,” he said.
The concrete is poured, and workers are waiting for it to cure enough to get a calibration on the scale, he said.
“We need good concrete in order to that,” he said, noting that the scale turned out really nice.
The Solid Waste Project bid was awarded to Mangum Construction of Clarkston for $1,719,523.64 on Monday, Dec. 5, 2022, and concerns the entrance scale for the Whitman County Solid Waste Transfer Site and Landfill on Carothers Road.
The scale was worn out and at the end of its life. The project was started to replace the main scale and add a second scale to handle in and out traffic.
Storey told the commissioners it would take a few weeks to open it all.
In other updates, Storey:
• Presented Public Works’ planned winter snow removal priorities. “This is the same letter we publish every year,” Storey said, noting that it has contact numbers.
• Submitted a schedule change effective Nov. 6, with Public Works employees on the clock from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. “The road crew and engineering are all on the same schedule,” Storey said.
• Notified commissioners the county will receive funding for the $1.129 million Ewan Bridge Project last week. “It’s the second bridge on the Cherry Cove Road,” Storey said. “We will have a contract in place to sign fairly soon.” It’s the first bridge funding the county has received in more than 10 years.
