Bulldogs and Nighthawks clash in Liberty tournament

COFLAX – Before the Bulldogs and Nighthawks can make their run at a district title in their respective leagues, they met at the Liberty volleyball tournament.

The tournament was played on Saturday, Oct. 14. At Liberty high school.

The tournament saw teams play three pool play games before heading into bracket play.

The Colfax Bulldogs went 0-3 in pool play. They first played against Lind-Ritzville-Sprague. The Broncos are currently second in RPI for the 2B WIAA standings. Set scores for the saw the Broncos take two-of-three: 25-13, 19-25, 15-9.

After the Broncos game, the Bulldogs met the Nighthawks. Oakesdale and Colfax would battle hard, but it was the Nighthawks who came out victorious, winning in straight sets: 25-18, 25-20.

After Oakesdale, the Bulldogs met Manson, who again bested the Bulldogs in straight sets: 25-16, 25-18.

After the pool play games, Colfax met Chewelah I the first bracket play match. Colfax would win this match in straight sets, 25-10, 25-19.

Their last match in the tournament was against Davenport. Again, the Bulldogs won in straight sets, 25-19, 25-19.

Overall, Ava Swan led the way with 29 kills, 47 digs, and four blocks. Brenna Gilchrist had 19 kills and 31 digs for Colfax.

Setter Lauryn York added 13 kills, seven aces, 61 assists, and 23 digs in the game.

For Oakesdale, they went 2-1 in pool play. Their first match was a loss against Manson in straight sets: 16-25, 11-25.

In this game, Payton Davis had nine kills, Samantha Holling had 15 assists, and Brieyn Henley had nine digs in the match.

After winning against Colfax, Oakesdale would play the Broncos.

Against Colfax, Davis had 14 kills, two aces, and nine digs. Holling added 25 assists.

Oakesdale defeated the Broncos in straight sets: 25-23, 25-13.

Davis had 18 kills, two aces, and seven digs. Holling had 27 assists, and Bradyn Henley had two blocks.

These games led Oakesdale into bracket play, where the Nighthawks went 1-1.

Their first bracket play game was against Okanogan, Oakesdale would win in straight sets: 25-20, 25-23.

Davis had 15 kills. Holling had 28 assists again in this game.

The next game for Oakesdale was the tournament championship game, which was played against Manson. Oakesdale was bested again by Manson in straight sets to take second overall in the tournament: 11-25, 19-25.

This game saw Davis have eight assists, Holling had 15 assists, and Lucy Hockett and Grace Perry each had one ace.
