Multiple Vikings score top five spots at meet
PALOUSE – The Garfield-Palouse (GAR-PAL) Vikings cross country team competed in their last regular season meet on Saturday, Oct. 14.
The meet was the Rams River Invite, and was held at Riverside State Park Seven Mile Airstrip in Spokane.
There were a total of five teams at the meet. The teams were: Colville, Freeman, GAR-PAL, Lakeside, and Riverside.
The event was a 5,000 m run for both the boys and girls.
On the girls side, the overall winner on the day was Zadi Zier of Colville. Her first place race was run in 21:20.6.
For the Vikings, they finished second, third, and fifth.
Ashleigh Hightree took second on the day, running her race in 21:46.0. Lola Edwards took third on the day, her time was 22 flat.
Fifth was taken by Courage Hightree, who ran 22:00.5.
Also for GAR-PAL was 11th place finisher Arabella Sievers, whose time was 23:30.5
13th was take by HettyLee Laughary, who ran her race in 23:46.5.
Ainsley Sievers took 32nd for the Vikings on the day, she ran her race in 32:47.7.
On the boys side, there were 35 total runners.
The overall winner was Malik Ortiz of Colville. He took first with his race of 17:44.3.
For the Vikings, their highest finishing runner was Brendan Snekvik, he took third with his race of 18:15.0.
Kieran Snekvik took fifth in the race, running 18:27.2.
Also finishing for the Vikings was Isaiah Hightree, who took 17th, his time was 20:05.6.
Sophomore Ayden Bassler finished 19th for the Vikings, he ran his race in 20:20.3.
Freshman Ethan Lawson finished 22nd with a time of 21:05.7.
Liam Cook took 28th, and freshman Gage Adams took 35th with his race of 26:26.2 for GAR-PAL.
The next time the Vikings will take the course will be Friday, Oct. 27, for the 1B/2B Regionals meet at the Chewelah Golf Course.
