Bulldogs end regular season with three straight wins

COLFAX - The Bulldogs volleyball team peaked at the right time, going on a tear for the final month of the season, winning 10 straight games.

With the 10 wins, the Bulldogs end the regular season with a 12-3 record, good for second best in the district, trailing Lind-Ritzville-Sprague.

The Bulldogs started the week off with a game against Northwest Christian (Colbert).

The game was played on Tuesday, Oct. 17, and was in Colfax.

This game saw the Bulldogs win all three sets, but had to earn their victory.

Colfax allowed Northwest Christian to score 23 or more points in two-of-three sets in the match, but still managed to squeeze out the victory.

Set scores in the match were all in favor of Colfax: 25-23, 25-15, 27-25.

In the match, Ava Swan led the way for Colfax with 18 kills, 14 digs, and three blocks. Brenna Gilchrist had three kills, but led with a team-high 17 digs in the game.

Hope Fulfs went 15-15 on serving in the match, and also added 13 digs and 10 kills for the Bulldogs.

Lauryn York added 35 assists and 10 digs to her seasons total.

After the game Tuesday, the Bulldogs then traveled to Reardan to take on the Screaming Eagles.

The game was played on Thursday, Oct. 19, and was played in Reardan.

The game was a clean sweep for the Bulldogs, who won three straight sets to sweep Reardan.

With the win against Reardan, the Bulldogs have won nine games in a row heading into their final regular season game.

In the final regular season game of 2023 for the Colfax Bulldogs, they ended their season with a game against St. George's.

The game was played on Saturday, Oct. 21, and was played in Colfax.

The game lasted just three sets, with the Bulldogs comfortably taking all three. In the game, the Bulldogs were able to sub in some of their reserve players to get some playing time in the final game of the season before the Bulldogs make their run in districts and state.

Set scores in the game were all in favor of the Bulldogs: 25-9, 25-10, 25-4.

In the first set, Swan would lead the way with a great serving run to push the Bulldogs to a quick 7-2 lead.

Gilchrist would then go on a strong serving run of her own to push the lead to 21-8 for the Bulldogs before eventually winning the set 25-9.

Lauryn York would then take her turn at a strong serving run in the second set to lead 7-2 early.

After some substitutions for the Bulldogs, they would lead 15-6 before taking the set 25-10.

The third set was the largest margin of victory for the Bulldogs, who took the set in dominating fashion, winning 25-4.

In the game, Swan had six kills and three aces for the Bulldogs. Gilchrist added eight aces and seven digs, and Karly Wigen had six kills for Colfax.

The Bulldogs started district play Tuesday, Oct. 24 with their game against Upper Columbia Academy.
