Bulldogs handle business in districts playoff opening game

Colfax wins game in three straight set victories

COLFAX - The Colfax Bulldogs started their run to a district title and state playoff berth by taking on the Upper Columbia Academy Lions in the first round of district playoffs.

The match was held in Colfax and was played on Tuesday, Oct. 24.

In the match, the Bulldogs would jump out to early leads in all three sets, and use their solid offensive play to sweep the Lions.

Set scores in the match were all in favor of the Bulldogs: 25-14, 25-12, 25-16.

In the first set, setter Lauryn York started the match with an ace. The Bulldogs would finish with seven aces as a team in the first set.

The Lions took their first timeout of the game trailing 10-2.

After the timeout the Bulldogs extended their lead to 20-8 before taking the first set 25-14.

In the second set, Ava Swan led the way with three kills in the set. Brenna Gilchrist also had two kills for Colfax.

The Bulldogs would combine for five aces in the set to win 25-12.

In the third set, Swan again would have three kills in a row to start the set. The Bulldogs would lead 15-9 before the Lions called their timeout.

Upper Columbia Academy took their last timeout of the match trailing 20-14, and could not complete a comeback, falling 25-16 to the Bulldogs.

With the win, the Bulldogs would advance to the next round of the district playoff. Their second district game was played on Wednesday, Oct. 25 in Colfax after going to publication.

For the other Whitman County volleyball teams, both the Oakesdale Nighthawks and St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse Eagles will host their first district playoff game on Monday, Oct. 30. Opponents for both the Nighthawks and Eagles have not been finalized at the time of publication.
